Ketab Corporation is proud to have been the first publisher in the United States to revive and publish the Hebrew Calendar of the late Kohen Sedgh, a publication that had been issued in Iran for nearly half a century. In preparing this edition, information that had been imposed on the calendar during the Islamic Republic era was removed, and the publication was adapted to meet the needs of the Iranian Jewish community living abroad.

At the time of its first publication in Los Angeles, no calendar in the United States combined the Hebrew, Iranian Solar (Persian), and Gregorian calendars while also serving the unique needs of Iranian Jews.

Before the widespread availability of the Internet and online information resources, this calendar served as an important source of Jewish religious information. Shabbat candle-lighting and ending times, fast days, Jewish holidays, and other essential religious observances were all published annually for the benefit of the community.

All Jewish religious information and observances included in this calendar are prepared and reviewed under the supervision of Rabbi Asher Zadmehr, a respected and trusted religious authority within the Iranian Jewish community.

While earlier editions focused primarily on religious content, Ketab Corporation expanded the scope of the calendar to include cultural, social, historical, and community-related events relevant to Iranian Jews, Israel, and the broader Jewish world. Each year, the calendar is updated and refined to better serve the needs of Iranian Jews in North America.

One of the most significant changes was the removal of the Islamic lunar calendar, which had little practical relevance for most Iranian Jews living in the United States. The additional space was instead devoted to cultural, historical, and community information.

One of the unique features of this calendar is its annual memorial listing of more than 1,500 Iranian Jews, the majority of whom passed away in the Los Angeles area. This list is updated every year, and families are welcome to submit information about their departed loved ones for inclusion in future editions. This service is provided free of charge.

The calendar also includes weekly summaries of the Torah portion (Parashah), making it a valuable educational and religious resource throughout the year.

In addition, Ketab Corporation is the only publisher to include three different Persian translations of Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikvah,” within the calendar.

Beginning in 2026, the Hebrew Calendar will be available not only in print but also online, making its information and resources accessible to Iranian Jews and Persian-speaking communities worldwide.
